2018 World Sight Day: is your vision road-ready?

On Thursday October 11th, Essilor Sun Solution swings into action during the annual day to draw awareness to good vision: World Sight Day.


Like every year, Essilor teams around the world come together to remind people about the importance of good vision and to promote eye care for everyone: in 2017, close to 80,000 people were screened in 53 countries. The Essilor WSD 2018 core message is: “We share the same world. Shouldn’t we share the same vision?”


Yet we still need to highlight this issue: while 80% of vision impairments can be prevented or cured, poor vision is still the world’s #1 unaddressed disability.


The purpose of World Sight Day is to raise worldwide awareness about the importance of good vision. This year, it focuses on one area where good vision is critical: road safety.


One out of 5 people does not see the road correctly. Because we share the same road, eye health must be a priority to ensure your safety as well as the safety of others. Everyone is concerned: drivers, but also bikers and pedestrians.

That’s why Essilor Group launched a campaign to encourage all road users to adopt 3 good habits to improve their sight on the road:

  • Check your vision regularly
  • Wear appropriate glasses
  • Protect your eyes from glare


These 3 recommendations are essential to take care of your eyes and avoid the consequences of poor vision.
